What I can see
Although it is a building of interwar modernism, the classicist influences are quite evident, such as its symmetry, the rhythmic repetition of the openings, the highlighting of the vertical axes and the base- main body -crowning arrangement. It housed the Diplareios School, which will be moved to another building in Kotzia Square. Today, the building with a total area of 8,327 sq.m., operates as a hotel.
What I can't see
The school was founded with a donation by the president of the Hellenic Artinasal Society, Aristides Diplaris. Tens of thousands of craftsmen of various specialties were trained here, such as wood carving, plastic furniture making, hat making and many more. The location of the school was ideal for the time, because it was close to the craft centres of the areas of Psyrri and Metaxourgio. During WWII, it was commandeered by the Nazis and operated as a hospital.
