What I can see
The art nouveau building has four levels and a total area of 700 square metres. It is also heavily decorated and was the residence of Aspasia Manou, wife of King Alexander I. Today, it houses the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, where the visitor is impressed by the similarity between the technology of late ancient Greece and the first years of modern technology.
What I can't see
The aim of the museum is to highlight the technological achievements of antiquity. One will be surprised to find that sciences and techniques such as robotics, computing, steam propulsion, automation, programming, telecommunications, cryptography, geodesy, mapping, use of hydraulic and wind energy, belt propulsion, chain propulsion and tooth propulsion began in ancient Greece. The technological heyday is found during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, which gradually declined during the following centuries and gradually recovered from the 13th century AD. The museum has 4 branches: in Ancient Olympia (Archimedes Museum), in Katakolo of Helia prefecture, in Heraklion, Crete and Rhodes. The collections of the annexes complement each other, so it is worth visiting them all. Founder of the museum is the mechanical engineer Kostas Kotsanas and the 500 exhibits of the collections have been created at his own expense. Several have been exhibited in European and Asian countries, the USA and Australia.
