What I can see
The Little Fisherman is a lively 1.3-metre-high marble, full-body, decorative sculpture. It represents a child in the nude, who is trying to remove the hook from a fish. The representation of the body and his facial expression stress movement and struggle. The work was influenced by classicistic art and the art of the Hellenistic Period (Hellenistic Rococo). It is well-placed amidst the surroundings, in the middle of an artificial pond in Zappeion, which reinforces its theme.
What I can't see
Bought by King George A to be placed in the garden of the Palace of Tatoi. This sculpture is a copy, and there are four more copies, some of which have been exhibited abroad.
