What I can see
The “Monument of the Sacred Band of 1821” consists of a 3.7-metre-high marble column. It is a raised pillar on a rectangular stepped base and is crowned by a sculpted classicist helmet. It also bears other relief features.
What I can't see
A work by Stamatis Kleanthes (1791-1862), also a member of the Sacred Band, it was made on a donation by the poet Alexandros Soutsos. It is dedicated to the fallen members of the Sacred Band of Dragatsani. The Battle of Dragatsani took place on June 6, 1821 in a mountainous region of Moldavia and Wallachia (modern Romania) between Greeks and Ottomans. The Greeks suffered a crushing defeat.
