What I can see
The “Monument of the Sacred Band of Christodoulos Tsigantes” is a 4 metre-high marble sculpture (column and pilasters). It has brass decorations and is placed on a stepped pedestal.
What I can't see
It was made in honour of the Sacred Band, a unit which was active in the Aegean, the Middle East and North Africa during World War II, under Commander Christodoulos Tsigantes. The Band fought alongside the British, French and New Zealand forces, with considerable success. As a military body, it was the forerunner of today’s Greek special forces.
