What I can see

The University of Athens is the main building of the Athenian Trilogy. Nowadays, the building houses only the deanery, the judiciary body and the archive, while it’s also used for university events. It consists of two storey wings and courtyards. The architecture is influenced by the early neoclassicism, as shown by the Ionic portico, combining simplicity with the grandeur of a monument. At the entrance, we see depicted the rebirth of sciences and King Otto, while right and left of the portico we see personalities of the world of philosophy, theatre and sciences. In the facade, are placed statues of important figures of modern Greek history.

What I can't see

With the creation of the Greek state, Athens was seeking to evolve from provincial city to the state capital, although it was considered a temporary capital, while Istanbul was designated as the future and permanent one. In this effort helped the main building of the University. The foundation has helped to establish Athens as the cultural centre of the period in the Balkan region. The University of Athens is called Kapodistrian to honour Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece after the foundation of the Greek state. The University of Athens currently has 5 faculties and 32 departments, most of which are housed in the campus in the east of the city.
