What I can see

This rowing site is 2.250m long and today serves as a training centre for national rowing and kayaking teams. Additionally, efforts have been made to operate the site as a leisure park including many other activities. There are sporting events such as cycling, swimming and triathlon races, and facilities also include a hotel, a restaurant and gyms. The site is surrounded by marsh, reeds, pine forest and army trees. It is part of the Schinias National Park, one of the largest wetlands in southern Greece, and is also a station of a large number of migratory birds.

What I can't see

A US military base operated in the area until 1953, and after the closure of the base, arbitrary construction and pollution burdened the area. The rowing facility was subsequently built to accommodate the rowing and kayaking events for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, which provided a reason to save the region and its natural wealth. The water comes from Makaria Source, and every two years it is topographically certified to be suitable for racing. Its construction has favoured the increase of bird biodiversity by 36 new species, has increased amount of water, and has reduced noise and illegal activities such as hunting, grazing, camping, and motocross.
