What I can see
The Placebo Pharmacy (apparently, an ironic choice of name) stands out for its unique architectural design. The Klab Architecture firm and Mark Chapman, Enrique Ramirez, Hara Marantidou designed an octagonal building encapsulated within a cylindrical frame, featuring Braille scripture with health-related words. The dual nature of the octagonal and spiraling cylindrical design exist in harmony with the “restless” Vouliagmenis Avenue, where the building is located. The Braille system engraved on the building alludes to the nature of the establishment housed inside and allows light to enter as well as spill out from the building at night.
What I can't see
The 600-square-metre building is well-lit throughout the day. It has a ground and a mezzanine floor, connected with a ramp. The ground floor houses the pharmacy, while the mezzanine has offices and ancillary areas. The project was honoured in the 2011 X International architecture awards.
