What I can see

Evgenios Spatharis, a historical shadow theatre artist, had as a dream the creation of a museum which would highlight this art, the folk theatre and the folk heroic figure of Karagkiozis. This dream came true and today we have the opportunity to learn so much about shadow theatre.

What I can't see

Karagkiozis is a symbolic folk hero of the shadow theatre. Its name comes from the Turkish Karagoz or Karagioz which means black-eyed. Karagkiozis has been included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list of Turkiye (Turkey). There are many myths about the origin of Karagkiozis. In the Greek area, it first appeared in Ioannina, at the beginning of the 19th century (Ottoman period), by Roma and Jews. Over time, Karagkiosis began to mock the authorities in a caustic way, as well as demonstrate more characteristics and elements of the Greek tradition.
