What I can see
Valtetsiou Street starts from Exarchia Square and ends at the French Archaeological School. It is approximately 500m long, 300m of which are pedestrian road. It is a street frequented by young people, students, several artists and Athenians from different areas of Athens, who are attracted by the bohemian atmosphere. On Valtetsiou Street we can find cafes, cocktail bars, homemade food, steakhouses, restaurants and traditional taverns (some with a courtyard) and the famous Riviera open air cinema.
What I can't see
On the spot where Rozalia restaurant is located (frequented by the painter Yannis Tsarouchis), was Rozalia’s house. She was a scary-looking woman, and often mothers would scare their children when they quarreled, saying that Rosalia would come. Rosalia, however, was a very brave person. She participated in the National Resistance during World War II, printed flyers, treated and hid Greek resistance fighters and British spies. “Rosalia” was her code name and was executed by the Germans in Kaissariani. Her real name was Avgoustina.
