What I can see

The architectural design is attributed to Ernst Ziller and it is a building of eclectic approach and late classicism. European and Roman elements are replaced or combined with Greek ones, as can be seen from the use of stone from nearby quarries (Greek element), the murals with themes from Pompeii, the Byzantine references (e.g. arched balconies) and the authentic ceramic statues (Roman element). It has refined proportions, symmetry (e.g. the side volumes) and overall it is a harmonious and balanced work. It consists of a raised ground floor and an upper floor, it is crowned with a wooden roof and the metal elements are used for its structural stability. The living room, the kitchen and the dining room are on the ground floor, while the bedrooms and the bathrooms are on the first floor. The adjacent -smaller- building is a later addition.

What I can't see

The first villa is the Villa of Roses and was Ziller’s summer house, when he came to Greece. When the Kavvadia family saw the Villa of Roses, they asked Ziller to design their own summer house. Shortly afterwards, the Kavvadia villa was purchased by Solon Vlastos, a businessman and publisher of the Greek newspaper “Atlantis” in New York, hence the name of the mansion. Today, it belongs to the Diakodimitris family.
