Afstroelliniki
Afstroelliniki is an excellent example of Art Deco architecture.
Modern and Contemporary era (1912 - )
1928 Constructed.
1990 Beginning of reconstruction as a shopping mall (Plateia Shopping Mall), designed by Kyriakos and Antela Kyriakidi and Harry Bougadellis.
1998 Inauguration of the shopping mall.

What I can see
The Afstroelliniki Tobacco Processing Company has façades with dynamic linear forms, which make the building an excellent example of Art Deco architecture. Today, only the external façades and mainly the two primary sides are preserved, as it has become a shopping mall. The contemporary architectural features include the building’s functionality, the freely accessible indoor square, the uninterrupted movement of the public on the balconies of the three sides (Π shape), the linear development of shops on all sides, the preserved turret (Bosporion), the coated façades, the morphologically simple inner façades by using modern materials and the red brick, which emphasizes its historicity.
What I can't see
It is a sample of unique industrial buildings of the era, with emphasis on morphology (functional and rational structure inside), setting aside the usual typology of industrial buildings of the time. It was a time of searching for morphological features close to Art Deco and the Bauhaus, which greatly influenced the modern movement. The company closed in the late 1970s, and for about 20 years the building was abandoned.
