What I can see
In an area of about 580 acres on the east of the city, is the American Farming School, which offers specialized knowledge on agricultural and cultivation issues, covers all levels of education (primary, secondary, college, adult education and special programs) and students of all Balkan countries study here. The school farm includes a dairy farm, poultry farm, crop production, dairy products, vineyard, the Krinos Olive Centre, certifications and product policies. The school also includes a library and the architecturally interesting Princeton Hall (1920s), designed by John Henry House Jr and the dorms building.
What I can't see
The school was founded by the American missionary John Henry House and his wife Susan Andeline Beers House. Initially, it was funded by donations from the United States. In an area of 200 acres, the school cared for orphans from rural areas and thanks to the systematic work of all, the soil began to become fertile and the area of the school increased. House described himself as a “practical idealist” and invested in rural education, innovation, agricultural and livestock production, carpentry and blacksmithing. In particular, when Thessaloniki passed into Greek territory and the refugees of 1922 arrived, his role was important. The school has always been famous for its milk. In the interwar years, the students transported the milk with donkeys to the Red Cross station and then it was passed to the babies of the refugees. Today, it produces milk from a unique herd of Holstein Friesian cows. The goals of the foundation are the sustainability and application of technologies through the progress of science, eating habits, biosafety, climate change and the protection of the environment.
