What I can see

The Makedonia Palace Hotel is an international style hotel, was designed by the Konstantinos Doxiadis office and is a characteristic example of late modernism. It has a simple geometric shape, with minimalist lines and each floor covering an area of 1,604 square metres. It has a view of Thessaloniki and the Thermaic Gulf and includes 283 rooms and suites. Despite the fact that it is spatially out of scale, it has become a veritable landmark.

What I can't see

It was originally owned by the Fund of OTE employees (initially named TAPOTE) but now belongs to Social Security Foundation (IKA). The foundations of the building are very deep, as it is built on an embankment. During its construction, it faced a big reaction because of its size and the free land it occupies, which essentially erects a physical “wall” that blocks the seafront. These dissident voices were silenced, due to the fact that most of its building works, as well as its inauguration, took place in the junta years. Makedonia Palace has hosted prime ministers, state leaders, stars from the movies, Hollywood and football.
