What I can see
In a space of only 60sqm, in the Geology-Paleontology laboratory, we can admire a remarkable collection of geological and paleontological samples from the Greek area. The 3 main collections consist of a) minerals and rocks of Greece (e.g. marbles and coals), b) paleontological collection of invertebrate organisms up to 600 million years old (e.g. Trilobites, Ammonites and Hipporites) and c) paleontological collection of vertebrate organisms, with an emphasis on the evolution of mammals. It includes skulls from equines, antelopes, giraffes, rhinoceroses, carnivores and other animals that lived in the Greek area for the last 10 million years. There is also a paleoanthropological collection and among its rare samples are the 9.5 million year old skull fragment of Ouranopithecus macedoniencis and the 200,000 year old skull of the “Petralona Man”.
What I can't see
The museum can be visited every Thursday morning, in small groups (up to 10 people) and in consultation with the professor in charge.
