What I can see
Nea (=new) Michaniona is synonymous with the sea. It is famous for its fish pier where one can enjoy fresh fish in one of the coastal taverns, which overlook the Thermaic Gulf and Mount Olympus. Unfortunately, the economic crisis has hurt the fish taverns. As a result, Nea Michaniona has gradually lost its reputation.
What I can't see
The area is named after the Greek refugees of Michaniona (which now belongs to Turkiye), who settled here after the population exchange between Greece and Turkiye. The relationship of Nea Michaniona with the sea is enhanced by the fact that the Merchant Marine Academy (Macedonian annex) was founded here in 1968 and is still in operation.
