What I can see
The Science Centre and Technology Museum NOESIS, located in the region of Thermi, occupies an area of approximately 48,000 square metres, with facilities that cover an area of 14,000 square metres. Its mission is the dissemination of science and technology in Greece and the Balkans. It includes a reception area, technology museum, a so-called cosmo-theatre and giant-screen cinema (300 seats), a digital planetarium (150 seats), a virtual reality simulator (18 seats), a conference centre, modern equipment, a temporary exhibition hall, a library, a centre for creativity and innovation, a show room (mobile auditorium), as well as labs and recreational areas. Inside the museum’s rooms, one can admire vintage cars, technological achievements of ancient Greece (construction, shipbuilding, etc.) and a Technopark (i.e. an interactive technology exhibition space).
What I can't see
The purpose of the building is minimum energy consumption and ecological surcharge. Largely contributing to this are its thermal shell-shaped characteristics, its orientation, the control of natural lighting, improved solstice systems, an artificial ventilation system, an autonomous management system for artificial lighting (BUS) with the use of sensors, green roofs, a 200 square-metre PV station that produces 30.000 kwh per year, the building’s central management systems (BMS), thermodynamic panels, thermal window glasses, eco-colours, a system of cold energy storage in tanks, as well as the use of natural gas and the installation of dry-place transformers.
