What I can see
In the centre of the circular fountain of Navarinou Square stands the “Whistling Boy”. It is a 1.33m bronze decorative sculpture, its outlines are strong and its style is strictly classicist. The sculptor was probably inspired by the Manneken Pis in Brussels. Jets of water around the sculpture soften the scene of the boy that whistles and urinates.
What I can't see
The sculptor Nikolas Pavlopoulos or Nikolas (1909-1990) was a controversial personality. In addition to working closely with the dictatorial regime (1967- 1974), during which the sculpture was created and placed, he had earlier expressed pro-Nazi views and had made busts of Mussolini and Hitler during World War II.
