What I can see

Despite the densely built environment, a walk in the Kypriadou area can be rather pleasant. Among the newer apartment buildings we can find interesting two-storey houses from another era. The systematic application of modernism during the 1930s did not deprive the buildings of several elements of previous architectural orders, such as eclecticism, neoclassicism, art nouveau, art deco, neo-baroque, and even traditional Central European influences. Most of the buildings are located on Agia Lavras Street, but we can also find more on other streets in the area, such as Irakliou, Polyla, and Laskaratou Streets. The majority were two-storey houses of different styles. Nowadays, some are in good and some in poor condition. Most of them, however, are no longer used as residences, but instead, house businesses (e.g. conservatories, restaurants, cafes, pubs) and services (e.g. kindergarden).

What I can't see

During the interwar period, and more specifically in the early 1920s, Greek businessman from Egypt, Minos Kypriadis, purchased land in the then rural area of ​​Patissia, with the aim of constructing pre-planned housing. The area became known as “Kypriadou Garden City” and attracted many intellectuals and artists. After the Asia Minor Catastrophe, however, the settlement was included in the urban planning, as the emergency housing needs of the refugees had to be met, although ultimately not many refugees were housed in this area. As the years passed, many of the Kypriadou buildings were gradually replaced by newer apartment buildings.
